12 Best Law Firm SEO Companies in 2026
This guide is for attorneys and firm administrators comparing SEO providers before requesting a proposal. Most comparisons of law firm SEO companies still focus on the same factors they did a decade ago: rankings, traffic, and how long an agency has been in business. These still matter, but they are no longer the whole picture. More prospective clients now ask AI assistants who to hire before they search Google. And the agencies that perform well in traditional SEO are not necessarily the ones AI assistants recommend.
So we scored every company here on eight criteria, one of which is AI search capability, and we applied the same eight to ourselves.
There is no single best law firm SEO company. The right provider depends on your practice area, how hard your market is to win, what you are trying to grow, and how well your firm converts the leads it already gets. A firm losing cases at intake has a different problem from a firm nobody can find.
One thing worth knowing before you read any comparison of this kind, including this one. Every ranked list of law firm SEO companies we reviewed while researching this page was published by one of the agencies on it, and each of those publishers placed itself first. Several disclose it openly. That does not make those lists worthless, but it does mean you should read the criteria before you read the ranking and judge the criteria against your own situation rather than the publisher’s.
TL;DR
- There is no universal best. Your practice area, market difficulty, and whether your problem is visibility or conversion decide the right fit.
- We applied eight criteria to all twelve companies here, including our own, with a source linked for every claim.
- AI search is a scored criterion, not a footnote. Ask every agency for a current, repeated measurement of where your firm appears across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and AI Overviews before you sign.
- Ownership terms vary more than pricing does. Confirm in writing who keeps the site, the content, the analytics, and the lead data when the engagement ends.
- We publish this page, and we appear on this list. Our entry is scored on the same eight criteria as everyone else’s, and it carries the same “what to press them on” section.

How we evaluated law firm SEO companies
Eight criteria, applied to every company on this page, including our own. We have not weighted them, because the right weighting depends on your firm rather than on us.
- Legal-industry specialization. Does the agency work with law firms exclusively, and can it demonstrate working knowledge of state bar advertising rules?
- Practice-area experience. Does the agency show published work in the specific practice areas it serves, rather than relying on generic legal case studies?
- Proof of qualified-lead or signed-case outcomes. Does reporting reach inquiries and signed matters, or stop at traffic?
- Local SEO and competitive-market capability. Can the agency show movement in map results and in expensive metros?
- Technical SEO and website ownership. Who owns the site, the code, the content, and the analytics when the engagement ends?
- Reporting transparency and attribution. What is in the monthly report beyond rankings and sessions, and can you see the raw data?
- AI search and answer-engine readiness. Can the agency show today which AI systems mention a firm for the questions its prospective clients actually ask and which sources those systems cite? A screenshot of one favorable ChatGPT response is not sufficient evidence, because AI systems can return different answers on different days. The agency should be able to provide repeated measurements across several AI engines and explain what it would change first when the results are unfavorable.
- Contract flexibility, onboarding, and client support. Notice period, account ownership, and what remains with the agency.
Best for SEO and AI search together: SocioSquares
We recommend SocioSquares for firms that want search visibility and AI visibility handled by one team, measured the same way, rather than AI search bolted onto an SEO retainer as a line item.
Best for: Firms that need to be found in search and named by AI, with reporting that reaches qualified inquiries rather than stopping at traffic.
Why it stands out: Most agencies treat AI search as an add-on to their existing services. SocioSquares treats search and AI visibility as one problem because they are closely connected. The pages that appear in AI answers are often pages that already perform well in search. Improving a firm’s visibility in AI requires many of the same fundamentals: pages that clearly answer questions, information that is not available elsewhere, trusted sources that support the information, and accurate structured data.
Measurement is a key differentiator. SocioSquares tracks which AI engines mention a firm, which client questions they answer, which markets they cover, and which sources they cite. Results are measured repeatedly across multiple engines, not captured in a single snapshot. A screenshot of one favorable ChatGPT answer does not show consistent visibility, especially when AI systems can produce different answers from one day to the next. This measurement creates a baseline at the start of an engagement and provides a clear way to track progress over time.
Ideal firm profile: Growth-minded firms that want direct access to the people doing the work rather than an account layer in between and that want to know whether the phone rang rather than whether the traffic chart went up.
Services: SEO, local SEO, content, conversion optimization, lead generation, and answer engine optimization.
AI search: Yes. Answer engine optimization is a named service, and AI visibility measurement is part of the standard baseline rather than an add-on.
Proof: SocioSquares ran a local SEO campaign for Moradi Neufer’s Los Angeles office from December 2025 to March 2026, focused on family law and divorce services. The office began with zero positions in the top 10 and zero in the top 3 for its targeted Los Angeles terms. Four months later, it held 13 positions in the top 10, four in the top 3, and 30 ranking positions in total, 17 of them inside the top 20. Those top 10 positions represented more than 2,650 monthly searches in Los Angeles, and the office had also reached top-20 map visibility for broader family law and divorce searches. Los Angeles is one of the hardest local markets in the country for family law. Read the full case study.
What to press us on: We publish this page, and we appear on it, so treat everything above as a claim to verify rather than a fact to accept. Ask for Search Console and analytics data rather than a summary slide, and ask which named person will run your account. Ask the same of every agency here.
Best for established legal-only SEO programs: Rankings.io
Best for: Established personal injury firms that want a legal-only specialist and can fund a premium program.
Strengths: Rankings.io works with law firms and nothing else and says it has done so for 13 years. The agency states that roughly 95 percent of its team is in-house and that the specialists on an account work only in legal marketing. Its stated reporting frame is signed cases and revenue rather than traffic or impressions, and engagements run month to month rather than on a long contract, which is a meaningful difference in an industry where twelve-month minimums are normal. Founder Chris Dreyer publishes books and a podcast for firm owners, and the agency runs PIMCON, an annual conference for personal injury firm owners. No other agency here has that level of presence in the category.
Services: SEO, AI search optimization, content, local SEO and local services ads, paid media, website design, and digital PR.
Practice-area focus: Personal injury, including motor vehicle accidents, catastrophic injury, and wrongful death, plus criminal defense and DUI, family law and divorce, immigration, and mass torts.
Considerations: This is a premium agency. Independent reviews position Rankings.io as a well-known name in legal marketing, but smaller firms should consider whether that level of agency is necessary for their needs. Ask for a case study involving a firm of similar size, practice area, and market rather than relying on a flagship account.

Best for competitive markets: LawRank
Best for: Expensive metro markets and firms serving Spanish-speaking clients.
Strengths: LawRank goes after first-page positions on the costliest legal keywords in large metros and is candid about the resources that it takes. Content is written or developed by attorneys and JDs, which is a harder standard than most agencies hold, and the agency is a Google Ads certified partner. The clearest differentiator is language. Both co-founders speak Spanish, and the agency states that 80 percent of its staff does, which supports genuine Spanish-language campaigns rather than translated English pages. For firms in Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, or San Antonio, almost nobody else on this list can match that.
Services: SEO, local SEO and Google Business Profile optimization, PPC, custom WordPress website design, and AI optimization.
Practice-area focus: Personal injury, criminal defense, and family law.
Considerations: LawRank prices at a premium and reviews position it as a fit for established practices ready to compete hard, not for firms testing the channel. If Spanish-language search is not relevant to your market, you are paying for a capability you will not use.

Best for high-growth firms: Hennessey Digital
Best for: Larger firms with enterprise budgets and multi-market growth targets
Strengths: Founded in 2015 by Jason Hennessey and based in North Hollywood, California, Hennessey Digital was acquired by Herringbone Digital in June 2025. In July 2026, The National Law Review named it to its list of Best Legal Marketing Companies for Law Firms and Lawyers, a list judged on legal specialization, full-service capability, investment in AI, GEO and answer engine optimization, reporting transparency, and case growth. The agency’s work centers on enterprise-scale search infrastructure: technical SEO, digital PR for authority, entity optimization and structured data, paid media, and reporting through its own platform. Third-party reviews describe CRM data, call tracking, and lead-to-case attribution feeding optimization decisions.
Services: Technical SEO, content, digital PR, paid media and local services ads, web development, conversion rate optimization, and AI search optimization.
Practice-area focus: Personal injury and civil rights in high-value markets.
Considerations: Reviews consistently point to premium pricing and a bias toward larger firms, and some note that web design and development timelines run longer than SEO execution. A solo or two-attorney practice is unlikely to be the right fit at this scale.

Best for technical SEO and content: BluShark Digital
Best for: Firms prioritizing technical foundations, content depth, and local visibility.
Strengths: BluShark Digital was built out of an in-house law firm marketing team rather than a general SEO practice. Founder Seth Price is also a founding partner at Price Benowitz, which he grew from two lawyers to dozens over roughly a decade, and he co-authored a book on local SEO for lawyers. The agency organizes work around four stated pillars: technical optimization, content, authoritative link building, and local optimization. In July 2026 it placed second on The National Law Review’s 2026 list, one position behind sister agency Hennessey Digital. Both belong to Herringbone.
Services: SEO, content, link building, local SEO and Google Business Profile work, and web design.
Practice-area focus: Multiple legal practice areas.
Considerations: BluShark has started taking on home services clients alongside legal and medical, so ask how much of your account team works on law firms. Reviews also flag premium entry pricing and note that account handling can shift toward more junior staff as the agency grows. Get the names of the people who will actually run your account.

Best for integrated legal marketing: Scorpion
Best for: Firms that want marketing, intake, and reporting connected on one platform.
Strengths: Scorpion has served the legal market since the early 2000s and is as much a technology company as an agency. Its RevenueMAX suite handles campaign optimization, lead tracking, and reporting, and Scorpion Convert, released in 2026, qualifies leads around the clock across phone, text, chat, and forms. In June 2025, Clio named Scorpion its sole preferred marketing partner, and Scorpion named Clio its sole preferred legal software partner, with product integrations that sync website leads straight into Clio Grow. Clio had never designated a sole preferred partner before. For a firm already running Clio, that integration closes the gap between marketing spend and case outcomes in a way few agencies can offer.
Services: SEO, PPC, website design, video, reputation management, AI intake, proprietary analytics, and lead management platform.
Practice-area focus: Bankruptcy, criminal defense, employment law, estate and probate, family law, immigration, and personal injury.
Considerations: Scorpion builds client websites on its own platform. That is what makes the integration work, and it is also the thing to settle in writing before you sign. Ask exactly what transfers if the relationship ends: the site, the content, the historical analytics, the call recordings, and the lead database. Scorpion also serves industries beyond legal, so ask how much of your team works at law firms.

Best for attorney-reviewed content and market exclusivity: Consult Webs
Best for: Firms that want legal review inside content production and a guarantee the agency will not take on a direct competitor.
Strengths: Dale Tincher founded Consultwebs in 1999 in Raleigh, North Carolina, making it one of the longest-running law firm marketing agencies in the country. It works only with legal practices. Two structural choices set it apart. Attorneys and veteran journalists staff the content team and review work for legal accuracy and bar compliance. And the agency caps how many firms it takes on in a single market, so it does not end up representing competitors. That second point carries real weight. An agency running SEO for three personal injury firms in one city has an incentive problem it cannot fully solve, whatever it tells you.
Services: SEO, PPC, website design and development, content marketing, video production, social media, call tracking, intake consulting, and analytics.
Practice-area focus: All practice areas, with strength in litigation and regional practices.
Considerations: The full-service model is an advantage if you want one partner across every channel and a drawback if you want a search specialist. Third-party reviews place Consultwebs in the mid-to-upper pricing tier. Given the agency’s age, ask whether your proposed site would be rebuilt or inherited.

Best for messaging alongside search: Juris Digital
Best for: Firms whose pages rank but do not convert, or whose positioning reads like every other firm in town.
Strengths: Juris Digital began as Ethical SEO Consulting, founded by Casey Meraz in the fall of 2010 while he was running internet marketing for a large Southern California personal injury firm. Before that, he built the SEO program for Intuit’s small business division. The agency works only with legal clients across practice areas and states that it measures itself on business results rather than metrics that do not move revenue. Attorneys take part in the content process rather than reviewing it afterward. One detail worth noting: Juris Digital publishes a “Just the Facts” page on its own site that opens by acknowledging that a company’s website is biased marketing. That is an unusual thing for an agency to put in writing, and it tells you something about how it wants to be evaluated.
Services: SEO, content, messaging and positioning, design, web design, and paid media.
Practice-area focus: All practice areas, from family law to criminal defense.
Considerations: Juris Digital is smaller than the enterprise names here. If you need heavy digital PR and link acquisition to compete in a tier-one personal injury market, ask what the authority-building plan looks like and who executes it.

Best for a website rebuild and SEO together: iLawyerMarketing
Best for: Firms where the website, not the search strategy, is the bottleneck.
Strengths: Mike Perez founded iLawyerMarketing in 2005, and it has worked only with law firms since. The agency is based in San Diego and was acquired by EverService Holdings in August 2023, giving it a legal technology parent. Its real strength is pairing the site build with search. Plenty of firms have an SEO problem that is actually a site problem: thin practice-area pages, dated design, slow loads, weak calls to action, and attorney bios that do not build trust. Publishing more content onto that site does not fix it. iLawyerMarketing rebuilds the asset, produces video in-house, and publishes actively on optimizing for answer engines alongside Google.
Services: Website design and development, SEO, local SEO, PPC, and local services Ads, content writing, and video production.
Practice-area focus: Personal injury, family law, employment law, estate planning, and others.
Considerations: Reviews describe it as a strong fit for solo and small firms needing dependable local execution and less suited to enterprise-scale competition. If your site is already sound, you may be buying a capability you do not need. As with any agency under a parent company, ask which services are delivered by the agency and which by the group.

Best for solo and small firms: Grow Law Firm
Best for: Solo practitioners and small firms making a first serious marketing investment.
Strengths: Grow Law Firm positions on return rather than rankings and makes three commitments small firms should weigh: clients own their website and data outright, there are no long-term contracts, and reporting is built around marketing return. For a firm testing the channel, those terms lower the cost of being wrong. The agency also puts unusual emphasis on intake optimization, which is often where small firms lose the most.
Services: SEO, PPC, web design, content, intake optimization, and reporting.
Practice-area focus: Personal injury, family law, criminal defense.
Considerations: The performance figures Grow Law Firm publishes are agency-reported. That is true of most case studies in this industry, ours included. Ask to see the underlying Search Console and analytics data rather than a summary slide, and find out who manages the account at your budget level.

Best for transparency and asset ownership: AttorneySync
Best for: Firms that want plain reporting, no contract lock-in, and ownership of everything produced for them.
Strengths: AttorneySync was founded in Chicago in 2008 by a lawyer and works only with law firms. Two commitments define it. Clients own the domain, website, content, and data. And the agency will not take on your local competition. Reporting leans on new client inquiries and cost per lead rather than rankings, and co-founder Gyi Tsakalakis is a regular speaker on legal marketing. The overall style is plain and analytics-heavy, which suits attorneys who want to see the work rather than a dashboard.
Services: SEO, PPC and Google Ads, local search optimization, website design and maintenance, copywriting, link building, email marketing, and social media management.
Practice-area focus: All practice areas.
Considerations: One review notes that AttorneySync publishes limited service details and few case studies on its own site, so you will have to request performance evidence directly rather than reading it beforehand. The agency also does not handle non-digital marketing.

Best for law firm web design: PaperStreet
Best for: Firms where the website is the priority and search follows it.
Strengths: Attorney Pete Boyd founded PaperStreet in 2001, and the agency has built law firm websites for over two decades, from solo practices to Am Law 200. Its position on ownership is unusually clear: you own the site, with no required services and no recurring maintenance fee. Quotes are flat-rate; there is no cap on pages or creative rounds, and legal writers produce the practice-area content. SEO, PPC, and local services ads run on top of the build.
Services: Website design and development, hosting, SEO, content, PPC and local services ads, and social media.
Practice-area focus: All practice areas and firm sizes.
Considerations: PaperStreet’s center of gravity is design and development rather than head-to-head search competition. If your main problem is outranking well-funded competitors in an expensive metro, ask specifically what the authority-building program looks like and who runs it.

Which law firm SEO company is right for your practice area?
The practice area matters. What works for a criminal defense firm may not work for an estate planning firm. Each practice area requires different content, search strategies, and ways of attracting potential clients.
Personal injury firms need local visibility, high-intent content, intake speed, and signed-case attribution. This is the most expensive category in legal search and the one where budget shapes outcomes most directly. Rankings.io, Hennessey Digital, and LawRank are built for it. Smaller practices should press hard on what an entry-level engagement actually buys in their specific market.
Family law firms need local SEO, trust-building content, and conversion-focused websites. The client is comparing three or four firms rather than clicking the first ad, so the consultation is the decision point, and conversion matters as much as ranking. See the Moradi Neufer Los Angeles case study.
Criminal defense firms need urgent-intent pages, local map visibility, and after-hours lead handling. The search happens at the worst moment of someone’s life, often at night and on a phone. Map pack presence and how fast the phone gets answered matter more here than content depth.
Immigration firms need multilingual architecture, location pages, and coverage of a wide and technical subject. Multilingual architecture is not a translation plugin. LawRank’s bilingual staffing is the strongest capability on this list for firms that need real Spanish-language campaigns.
Estate planning firms need education-led content, local search, and a clear path to the consultation. The cycle is long, and the conversion is a booked meeting rather than a phone call, so content depth outweighs aggressive link acquisition.
If your practice area is not here, the question is the same one: ask the agency to show you work in your category, in a market of comparable difficulty, from the last eighteen months.
How much does law firm SEO cost?
Most agencies on this page do not publish pricing. Rankings.io says it builds pricing around firm goals in a discovery call rather than quoting a standard figure, and Scorpion does not publish flat pricing either. We are not publishing a range here, because a number detached from your market, practice area, and site condition would mislead you more than help.
What actually moves the price:
- Practice-area competitiveness. Personal injury in a major metro costs multiples of estate planning in a mid-sized city.
- City versus statewide or national targeting. One office in one city is a different program from multi-market coverage.
- Existing site quality and authority. A site that needs rebuilding costs more in the first six months than one that needs optimizing.
- Content and technical debt. Years of thin pages, duplicate location pages,, and broken internal linking take time to unwind.
- Link acquisition needs. Usually the single largest variable in expensive markets.
- Whether the website and intake system work are included. Scope beyond search changes the number substantially.
Questions to ask before you sign:
- What is included in the monthly fee, and what gets billed separately?
- Is there a setup fee, and what does it cover?
- What is the minimum term and the notice period?
- Is ad spend inside the retainer or on top of it?
- What happens to pricing if we add a practice area or a second office?
- What should be delivered by month three, month six, and month twelve?
- What does leaving cost, including any site rebuild?
How to choose a law firm SEO company
- Ask for practice-area-specific case studies. A personal injury result in a small city tells you nothing about family law in Los Angeles.
- Confirm how leads are qualified and attributed. Find out whether the agency counts form fills, qualified inquiries, or signed matters, and how it tells them apart.
- Verify the firm owns its website, content, analytics, and conversion data. Put it in the contract, not the sales call.
- Ask what reporting includes beyond rankings and traffic. Then ask to see a real, anonymized monthly report before you sign anything.
- Review the plan for local SEO, technical SEO, content, and authority building. A plan heavy in one and silent on the other three is not a plan.
- Confirm who does the work and who owns strategy. Names, locations, in-house, or contracted.
- Ask how the agency adapts to Google AI Overviews and other AI search experiences. What it measures, and whether it can show you a current baseline for your firm.
- Clarify contract terms, onboarding, and exit process. What happens in the first 30 days, and what happens on the last one.
One question most firms forget: does the agency already represent a direct competitor in your market? ConsultWeb and AttorneySync both commit publicly to some form of market exclusivity. Ask everyone else directly and get the answer in writing.
Frequently asked questions
What does a law firm SEO company do?
A law firm SEO company improves how visible your firm is in search results for the legal services you offer in the places you serve. The work covers technical improvements to the website, local search and Google Business Profile optimization, content built around how prospective clients actually search, and authority building through links and citations. A legal specialist also works within state bar advertising rules, which restrict how firms present results, testimonials, and comparative claims.
How long does SEO take for a law firm?
Law firm SEO usually shows early movement within three to six months and meaningful change in case volume over twelve months or more, depending on the market and the starting condition of the site. A firm entering an expensive metro from a standing start takes longer than a firm with existing authority tuning an established site. An agency promising ranked results in 60 to 90 days in a competitive practice area is describing something it cannot reliably control.
How much should a law firm spend on SEO?
A law firm should spend at the level of its market and practice area demand, which is why almost no agency publishes a standard figure. Four variables determine it: practice-area competitiveness, geographic scope, the condition of the existing site, and how much link acquisition the market requires. Ask any agency to justify its proposed budget against those four rather than quoting an industry average.
Is SEO worth it for small law firms?
SEO is worth it for a small law firm when it is scoped to a market the firm can realistically win. A solo estate planning attorney targeting one suburb has a viable path. The same attorney targeting a statewide personal injury term does not. The usual failure is not SEO itself but buying a program built for a firm ten times the size.
Can a law firm SEO agency help with Google Maps rankings?
A law firm SEO agency can help with Google Maps rankings through Google Business Profile optimization, consistent local citations, review generation, location page structure, and content tied to the areas you serve. Map visibility is a separate discipline from organic ranking, and a firm can do well in one while doing poorly in the other. Ask for map pack examples specifically rather than accepting organic ranking screenshots.
What practice areas are most competitive for legal SEO?
Personal injury is the most competitive practice area in legal SEO, followed by mass torts, criminal defense and DUI, and family law in major metros. Case value drives it: the more a signed matter is worth, the more firms will spend to appear for the search. Estate planning, business law, and niche civil practices are generally less contested.
How should a law firm measure SEO success?
A law firm should measure SEO on qualified inquiries and signed matters, treating rankings and traffic as leading indicators rather than results. A useful monthly report shows organic visibility for commercially meaningful terms, map pack presence, inquiries by source, the qualification rate on those inquiries, and where intake leads are being lost. A report that stops at sessions and keyword positions cannot tell you whether the program is working.
Do law firms need SEO and paid search together?
Most law firms benefit from running SEO and paid search together because they solve different timing problems. Paid search and local services Ads produce inquiries immediately while organic visibility is still being built, and organic reduces dependence on rising cost per click over time. The right split depends on how urgently you need case flow and how competitive your practice area is.
What should a law firm own when working with an SEO agency?
A law firm should own its domain, its website and the underlying code, all content produced for it, its Google Analytics and Search Console properties, its Google Business Profile, its call tracking data, and its lead database. This varies a great deal across the agencies on this page. Platform-based vendors build on proprietary systems, which deliver integration benefits and raise switching costs at the same time. Get the answer in writing before you sign.
Can an SEO agency help a law firm appear in AI-generated answers?
An SEO agency can improve the likelihood that AI systems cite your firm, though no agency can guarantee a citation. The practical work involves structuring pages so answers extract cleanly, publishing information that exists nowhere else, earning mentions on third-party sources AI systems already trust, implementing structured data, and maintaining visible authorship and update dates. Ask for a measured baseline of where your firm currently appears across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and AI Overviews before any work is proposed.
How this list is maintained
This page is reviewed once a year. At each review every external claim is rechecked against the agency’s current site and public sources; companies that no longer meet the criteria come off, and the date changes only after the check is finished. If you think something here is wrong, tell us and we will correct it.
Not sure which of these fits your firm? Get a free AI visibility audit and see where your firm currently appears across Google, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity.
